Our Story

J.P. Toste giving a lunch lecture to the SV team.

Born in the mountainous Azores Islands off the coast of Portugal, JP Toste came to the United States to attend UNC Chapel Hill, where he launched his first organization, The Atlantis Project, a student group to help his peers find study abroad opportunities. Now in its tenth year of business, Atlantis is an industry leader in international healthcare education.

Saffron Ventures itself was founded in 2014 as an umbrella organization to be a home for Atlantis and other for-profit and non-profit organizations in the SV portfolio, including the Beacon Fellowship and the Lex Fellowship.

In all the work that we do here at Saffron Ventures, we seek to foster a counter-cultural vision of the workplace, of a community of individuals who are ambitious in their careers but who seek also to grow in friendship while learning with one another.

Saffron Ventures Innovation

new for-profit companies and not-for-profit organizations

The Saffron Ventures Innovation team takes new ideas for for-profit companies and not-for-profit organizations & launches them in private beta mode. Once the Innovation Team proves these new initiatives to be viable, they are launched more publicly. Many of these new companies are awaiting the right individual to come to Saffron Ventures to launch and scale these companies to great success.

Our mission is to better prepare prelaw students for a potential career in law through real-world, hands-on legal education.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
